You’re here because you want to see real change in your life. We’re here because we believe you deserve more than a cookie-cutter therapeutic experience.

Welcome to Empower Me, where it’s all about you,
and all about real change that lasts.

Our Story

Empower Me was founded by Jennifer Pearlman, LMHC, out of a desire to bring truly personal, empowering therapy to individuals and families. With extensive training in CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care — and a gift for connecting with kids and teens — Jennifer built the kind of practice she wished existed: warm, grounded, and deeply effective. Empower Me is growing, with a carefully chosen team of therapists who lead with empathy and excellence. Every clinician here believes in the power of real connection and practical support.

Together, we’re creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward — not just in therapy, but in life.

Meet the Team

Jennifer Pearlman

Founder and Lead Therapist

Jen, as her clients fondly refer to her, started her mental health career with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queens College, followed by a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Brooklyn College. After graduating, Jen first worked at a non-profit agency, where she completed an internship at a specialized school for emotionally dysregulated children. This is where her love of working with children and adolescents was sparked.

Jen then worked as a play therapist and family therapist for a period of time. She later returned to the school where she had interned, this time as a therapist, and eventually assumed a supervisory role. At this point, demand for Jen to open a private practice grew, and she ultimately left her school-based job to launch her own group practice.

Jen has continued to pursue additional training and certifications over the years, including modalities like CBT and DBT, to expand her skillset and better serve her clients.

Lisa Melito

Therapist

Lisa attended Hofstra University and received her Masters in School Counseling, then returned to complete an advanced certificate in Mental Health Counseling. Her entry into the world of mental health was through case management. Lisa later interned in a BOCES school, providing clinical therapy to students — and she never left! In the daytime, she’s a school counselor, and in the evenings working with clients at Empower Me.

Lisa works with children, adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, peer struggles, divorce, mood disorders and ADHD. She makes a point of collaborating closely with families to support their children in their struggles.

Lisa takes joy in supporting her clients through their growth every single day.

What we do

Our Approach

At Empower Me, therapy is about more than venting — it’s about growing. We meet clients where they are, equip them with tools to move forward, and walk alongside them as they build confidence, resilience, and stronger relationships. Whether supporting a struggling child, overwhelmed parent, disconnected couple, or growth-oriented adult, we bring heart, skill, and a deep commitment to our clients’ goals.

Because no two situations are alike, we approach each session with a tailored mix of evidence-based modalities to meet each clients’ unique needs. Our holistic approach is a key element of our clients’ success — we work with the broader family system, schools, and communities to ensure that our clients are able to succeed in every aspect of their lives.

Ready for change?

We’re here to help you grow into the best version of yourself.

“Jen will reach out to whomever works with her client in school, or any other environment, in order to gain a complete picture… There truly are no words to express how much Jen has helped our son and what she means to our family. We would follow her to the moon and back if necessary.”

“You know when you can just look across the room at someone — without shaking or nodding your head —  and being able to communicate exactly what you are thinking to them? It’s very, very rare that someone —  a therapist —  gets to know you and your family so well that this is the case. But that is the person that Jen Pearlman is to our family.

Jen has worked with our son for more than eleven years — since he was 14 years old in a school environment —  through his transition to a young man and through her transition to a private practice. We would follow her to the moon and back if necessary.

I think that it is very significant that Jen began her years as a therapist in a school, because that gives her  accurate insight into the unique challenges that an adolescent may face in that environment. A therapist sees a person and that person’s interaction with his or her family, but that is only a part of what makes up the patient’s world. School is a significant component that cannot be ignored, and Jen will reach out to whomever works with that person in school, or any other environment, in order to gain a complete picture. Jen gets to know her patients and the family very well, as well as any significant others in her patient’s life, and she is thorough.

Jen is also very warm and loving and she is quick to smile and laugh. She also offers specific, concrete suggestions to help address particular issues and situations. Jen is intuitive, and she “reads a room” like no other therapist I have ever worked with. It’s hard to say if that is her best quality, but it’s at or near the top.

There truly are no words to express how much Jen has helped our son and what she means to our family. We are blessed that she was placed in our path, and we continue to be so twice a week every week.”
